SELECTION PROCESS
This great honour is given by invitation only at the sole discretion of the Elite Dance Corps staff. To become a member of our award-winning team, a dancer must possess a positive attitude, great dedication and an exceptional understanding of dance technique. This is measured by performances throughout the current dance season and summer auditions. Competitive level dancers will be expected to train at an advanced level and travel from city to city competing for championship titles.
BENEFITS OF COMPETITIVE DANCING
Not only do dancers gain self-confidence by dancing in front of large audiences, competitive dancing also instills discipline and teamwork that one will carry throughout the rest of their life. Dancers will learn to accept wins and losses in a respectful manner. Competitive dancing is such a great experience that losing is never an option! Every experience is a positive one and should be treated as such. In our eyes, you are all winners!
CLASS REQUIREMENTS
In order to enhance the effectiveness of a dancers' training, each genre of dance is best understood when coupled with one or more genre of dance. Please see the Elite Dance Corps requirement list below to ensure that you are receiving the most efficient and effective training.
COMPETITIVE JAZZ -- Ballet - COMPANY: 2 hrs/wk; PART TIME: 1 hr/wk
--Technique/Conditioning - COMPANY: 45 min/wk
COMPETITIVE BALLET -- 2 hrs/wk & Ballet Exam
COMPETITIVE TAP -- 1 hr/wk of Rec. or Comp. Jazz
COMPETITIVE ACRO -- 1 hr/wk of Rec. or Comp. Jazz + 1hr/wk of Rec. or Comp. Ballet
COMPETITIVE HIP HOP -- 1 hr/wk of Rec. or Comp. Jazz
COMPETITIVE LYRICAL -- 1 hr/wk of Comp. Jazz & 1 hr/wk of Rec. or Comp. Ballet
**All competitive dancers must take the required classes per week.
COMPANY TEAM DANCE PROGRAM: Company dancers are trained at the advanced level. Dancers must be enrolled in 6 genres of dance.
JAZZ / TAP / BALLET / ACRO / HIP HOP / LYRICAL
PART TIME COMPETITIVE DANCE PROGRAM: Dancers must be enrolled in 1 competitive genre of dance as invited by an EDC staff member. **Refer to Requirements List on the left.
